TODAY’S DEVOTION (Monday 2nd June 2025)
“But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.” Hebrews 12:22-24 NKJV
WELCOME TO THE 153RD DAY OF OUR YEAR OF VICTORY
I bless the LORD God of heaven and earth for giving us another day to be alive and serve our generation according to His will. The Bible says David served his generation according to God’s will, now it is our turn to do the same. If you are not living a life that is serving your generation according to God’s will, you are not fulfilling why you are alive.
It is my prayer that you overcome life distractions and become focused on the one thing that is behind your existence; the one thing that made God to shoot you like an arrow into time. We were created to fulfill just one thing in life, not many things. If you are looking at many things to fulfill then you are yet to come into the revelation of that one thing.
Jesus showed us the way when He said to Pilate, in John 18:37 “for this purpose was I born, for this purpose I have come into the world.” He did not say for these purposes was I born. He said for this purpose. You have one purpose to live for not purposes to live for.
Your life will be beautiful if you find that purpose and focus your entire energy on it. I did that when I was still 16; though it was not colorful.
Many people doubted me and thought I was just wasting my time. But the Bible says in Habakkuk 2, “write the vision, make it plain upon tables that he might run that reads it. For the vision is for an appointed time, at the end it shall speak. It shall not lie.” I did that and today the vision is still speaking.
IT IS MY PRAYER THAT YOU FIND THE ONE PURPOSE YOU WERE BORN FOR AND LIVE THE REST OF YOUR DAYS FULFILLING IT.
One thing that happens when you find out the one thing you were born to fulfill and start fulfilling it, is the battles the kingdom of darkness unleashes against you. Mine started at their appointed times too but God was faithful. My life became a life of terrible mistakes at critical turns, for lack of knowledge, absent of a prophetic midwife, etc. which God later saw me through when He came for the rescue.
Things also happened that left me with happy days to remember.
For instance, today one of the happy days. It is another anniversary of our traditional marriage, not the church wedding. If you are focused on the one thing because you were born, God will also create some happy days for you to remember despite the battles that may rage against you for aligning with God’s will for your life.
In Nigeria, proper marriage has three institutions that intending couples submit to. The first is the institution of the family of intending couples, the second is the government institution and the third is the Church. Traditional marriage is a submission to the institution of the family.
Ours took place on a day like this (today), the second day of June.
Customarily, traditional marriage takes place when the parents of the bride are honored with the bride price for their daughter in the midst of joyful celebration. For the unsaved, traditional marriage is the biggest celebration and that is where all marriage rites stop (aside from the courts)!
But for the saved, you proceed to the Church to have your union covenanted before coming together as husband and wife. That is what every child of God is expected to do, though those who are not sexually discipline do not. They come together before church weddings.
Most people who get married do so during joy but mine was in the midst of battle. In fact, I was battle weary. If you see the photos you will know. I was crossing from one dark season of life to another when the event was taking place. It was just the mercy of God that saw us through all through the season.
IF YOU DISCOVER THE ONE THING TO LIVE FOR, YOU MUST ALSO GET READY FOR BATTLES YOU DID NOT SOLICIT FOR.
I remember floating and being under intense pressure. I spent the season fasting and praying hence looking miserable during the period. That is why I call the month of June my month of Mercy. God’s mercy was what kept and helped me greatly. I was on a fast because one way your spirit can reach out to God’s mercies and remain strong in battle is through Biblical fasting.
Yes, if you find out the one purpose you were born and begin to live for it, frequent fasting and prayer will become your lifestyle. You will need to fast often to keep fit in the spirit and remain strong in battle.
You will also discover the role Fasting and prayer play in the school of God’s mercy. God’s mercy to you will be a bridge that the LORD Jesus constructs in the lives of His own, to move them from one side of life to God’s side of life. He does the construction using our fast, especially a fast we do in repentance.
Yes, if you begin to live your life according to the one purpose you were born for, there will be so many seasons of repentance from bad decisions and for other things. Sometimes it will be repentance from personal sins. God will use your fast to build the bridge that will take you from the side of life your sin, iniquity or trespasses created for you, to the side of life that only His precious blood can create for you.
When my rebellion and sin took me to that part of life, it was terrible. Everything about me went blank. All the prayers I did could not change anything. I was literally descending into the belly of hell the spirit despite my prayers and fasting. But one day came that mercy said no!! I heard it loud and clear. It was not audible.
IT WAS SIMPLY A MANIFESTATION THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING.
I discovered painfully that, if our sins, iniquities or trespasses create a dark side of life for us, even as we live for the one thing we were born for, we would have to obtained mercy through a season of deep repentance, else our fasting and praying for a Change will never bring any change.
I also discovered that you could fast and pray with no repentance at heart, but you cannot truly repent without fasting and prayer. Most of the prayers I prayed never brought any change because there was no true repentance in my heart. My heart just had regrets and pains for what I was going through.
I was filled with godly sorrow for the bad decisions that I took that were tearing my life apart. I was praying based on the godly sorrow and expecting a change, but it never came because godly sorrow does not lead to a change of life. The Bible says godly sorrow only leads to repentance.
Thank God mine indeed led to it and my prayer and fasting began to bring change.
One of the most beautiful things that can ever happen to a man is a genuine salvation experience. It will place a cut in your heart that will take you to the threshing floor whenever things go wrong in your life, especially as you live for the one purpose you were born for. That was what happened to me.
If I had no initial salvation experience, if mine was just psychological one, that would have been the end of me. But genuine salvation experience will make sure the things you go through in life due to bad decisions do not bury you. It will make sure they become your purifying furnace.
When you are purified, you will begin to come into rich fulfilment. That is my story!!
The reason for the rich fulfilment is because a genuine salvation experience brings you to mount Zion, the city of the living God. This city is not a place where the consequences of our bad decisions can kill us. It is a place where they can refine us and bring us to repentance. Our devotional text says:

It is because of life in this city that this month will be a beautiful month for you.
If you need to move from the side of life you are now, to a sunnier side in God’s plan, do what I did. Spend each day of this month seeking the LORD’s mercy in deep repentance and give Him what to use to build that bridge that you will need to walk through to that side. Amen!!!
