TODAY’S DEVOTIONAL (SUNDAY 09TH August 2026)
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 NKJV
WELCOME TO THE 221ST DAY OF OUR YEAR OF STRATEGIC VICTORIES!
God has kept us in His faithfulness. He has been our sun and shield. He has been our refuge and strength. To Him be the glory!!!
It is the first day of the week, and we thank God for another privilege for Sunday service. The foundation for this was laid when God called Abraham. The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus cemented everything.
Yes, Sunday services started in the early Church basically to mark the resurrection of our LORD and Saviour Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead on a Sunday, the first day of the week. That is why His power is always present to renew our strength, restore our lives, heal us and bind the broken pieces of our lives.
Except you are worshiping in the synagogue of Satan, whenever we assemble in the pillar and ground of truth, a local church that is part of the global church of the living God, with hearts that are hungry for the LORD, and an able minister of the new testament as our pastor, the resurrection power of Jesus Christ will be present, to grant us dominion over the practice of sin, permanent deliverance from every works of the devil without sowing seeds, raising altars, praying to recover lost stars, etc., and capacity to possess our possessions.
The Bible says:
“The scepter shall not depart from Judah, Nor a lawgiver from between his feet, Until Shiloh comes; And to Him shall be the obedience of the people.”
Genesis 49:10 NKJV
If the scepter is in the gathering, if Shiloh (Jesus Christ) is at its center, the gathering will always produce an obedience that is unto the LORD; and if it is allowed to truly be unto the LORD, our hearts will be built or edified to function as a temple of God in the Spirit.
ALL THESE ARE THE CONSEQUENCES OF ATTENDING A GOOD CHURCH!!
Talking about consequences, today God want to speak to us about consequences. I hope we are ready!! The word consequence is used to describe the result or effects that follows a specific action, event or decision. What your life is today, is a consequence of the choices, decisions and actions you have taken since the day you were born.
Another word for consequences is outcome. Outcomes of our decisions, choices or specific actions might be good or bad depending on the decision, choice or action. An outcome is something that happens because of an earlier choice or cause. It might be good or bad, depending on what happened.
Whether we believe it or not, our lives are outcomes.
Yes, we are a product of our choices, decisions or specific actions. Our lives, either blissful or sorrowful, joyful or joyless, rich or poor, healthy or sickly, saved and sanctified or lost and heading to hell, are outcomes or consequences of our choices, decisions and actions. That is why it’s foolish to blame people for what might be happening in your life.
There are three basic types of consequences. We have dire or serious consequences, which are very bad or dangerous outcomes.
These kinds of consequences are effects of choices, decisions and actions that are known or not known to be bad as of the time of taking them. It was to prevent this type of consequence that made God to send this word to the nation of Isreal, which is indirectly to us.
The blessed words are in Our devotional text. The text says;
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 NKJV
THIS SCRIPTURE EVEN TOLD THE PEOPLE WHAT TO CHOOSE IN ORDER TO PREVENT DIRE OR SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES.
The voice of the LORD said to them, “choose life that both you and your descendants may live.” The Spirit of God will always help us to take decisions and make choices that will not result in bad or dangerous outcomes. That is why, if the LORD is your Shepherd, the outcome will be “you shall not want or lack.”
Which means, lack and poverty are either outcomes or consequences of wrong choices, bad decisions or foolish actions. If the LORD leads you, none of that will be present. No one led by the LORD will make a choice that will result in this kind of consequences.
If you will live a good and peaceful life on earth, you must understand the principle of consequences and know that your choices, decisions or actions are pregnant. They could give birth to things you do not like, so you must be guided. The things you do, say, perceive, act, or believe has consequences. Some eternal. You must be careful.
The second type of consequence is positive consequences. This is the type that is produced by good choices, better decisions and excellent actions. This is the type of consequences God wants us to have. For instance, the consequences of giving your life to Christ and living His life instead of your own, is making Heaven. That is a beautiful consequence.
THIS IS THE TYPE OF CONSEQUENCE THAT IS AN OUTCOME OF REPENTANCE, PRAYER, DILIGENCE, FASTING, ETC.
The consequences of having faith in God regardless, is breakthroughs. Beautiful things God does to people who do not stagger in unbelieve, is a consequence of having unflinching faith in God. These are positive consequences that beautifies a man’s life.
The next type of consequence is unintended consequence. This can be dangerous because it comes as a surprise result that you never meant to happen. It is what people never meant to happen that has defined so many. For instance, when you got married, you never meant that a divorce would happen, but it did. That is unintended consequence of your decision to marry whom you married.
Sadly, many people will be in hell as an unintended consequence. It will be an outcome they never planned or envisage. It is responsible for disappointment, regrets, and for a child of God, repentance and a deeper walk with the LORD. This kind of consequence is created by ignorance, lack of foresight, or taking some advice from someone.
Unintended consequences can be positive or negative, and good or bad depending on the choice, decision or action. Friend, God sent this word to teach us to be careful because our choices, decisions and actions has consequences. Do not take a decision, make a choice or follow an action that has dire or serious consequences.
Samson took one and ended up with no eyes. He loved a woman in the valley, and the consequences is still being discussed today. You might take one and end up with no life to live because the days are dangerous.
The consequences of anger, lack of discipline, not giving honor to whom honor is due, overreaction, or even having the wrong person in your life might live you with no good life to live. Our choices, decisions and actions should be guided by the Spirit of the LORD. Only then will our lives be full of bliss.
May the LORD imprint these words in our hearts so we can become careful and circumspect in all we do. Amen!!
LET THIS SCRIPTURE BE AN ADDITIONAL MEDITATION FOR US TODAY!!
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones.”
Proverbs 3:3-8NKJV
