TODAY’S DEVOTION (Saturday 7th June 2025)
“So the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen? If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.”
Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?”
He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.
So now you are cursed from the earth, which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. When you till the ground, it shall no longer yield its strength to you. A fugitive and a vagabond you shall be on the earth.”
And Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is greater than I can bear! Genesis 4:6-13 NKJV
WELCOME TO THE 158TH DAY OF OUR YEAR OF VICTORY
Glory be to GOD who has enabled us to come to the end of another week. It is already 158 days into this year. This speed of time is not fake. It is a message that we are fast approaching the end of days, either individually as mortals, or corporately as humans.
In other words, if the LORD designed that the strength of your body carries you for over a hundred years, and you reduced it to 50, 60 or 80 years, each day reduces the number of days you still have on earth. Even if you conduct yourself properly and the strength of your body is still strong enough to carry you to the full term of 120 years, each day still reduces the number of days you must live.
This is a call to make good use of your days and not allow them to pass by like that. Our days are to be used to worship God and serve our generation according to His will. If that is what we are using our days to do, we will have a glorious end at the fulfillment of our appointed years on earth.
The Bible teaches that day unto day mankind gets closer and closer to the final consummation. Sadly, many are still not aware of the imminent consummation of all things. Our personal needs consciousness has blinded us and limited our vision to seeing what we ought to be seeing about the final moments of the earth.
My heart is saddened by the Prophetic ignorance of many in the present Church. We have become as blind as the world. We grope in spiritual darkness like the lost do. Exception of the religious things we do and say, there is not much difference between us and them.
We allow political winds, the winds of the carnal cravings of the flesh and the pleasure of sin to blow us like they do instead of the prophetic winds of the Spirit of Truth. That is why we suffer what they suffer and are as eternally damned as them yet calling ourselves “born again.”
But the mercies of the LORD are from everlasting to everlasting. That is why we have hope. It can change our lives if we acknowledge that things are wrong and that we need help, then bend the prayer knee in humility and repentance to seek the LORD. We will obtain mercy to find grace.
YES, WE WILL OBTAIN THE MERCY TO USE IN A PERVERSE AND CROOKED GENERATION LIKE OURS.
If we indeed, obtain that mercy, and make use of it to wake up from our spiritual slumber, especially now that it is day, things will be different, because the night comes when no man can work. Sadly, that night is fast approaching!
When it finally comes, mankind will know that they have been deceived not making Jesus Christ and eternal things their greatest attention in this life.
You can be an exception this morning by not allowing the dark winds of this age and the fallen nature to be your life drivers.
One thing you will not see if that happens is the wonderful works of God’s mercies. Yes, the seed of God’s mercy will be sown into your life to bring forth a life or righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost.
Our devotional text speaks about what happened between Cain and the mercies of the LORD. While God’s mercy was standing before him, he hardened his heart and resisted what it wanted him to do.
If Cain had known that God’s Mercy was a seed He plants into our lives, and that our proper response is what make the seed bring forth the harvest of blessings, he would have responded differently. But now Cain is gone; we are here. We must be able to recognize How God wants us to respond to His mercy, so that the harvest that He planted it to bring forth in our lives can be born.
The response God expected from Cain was the perishing of the thought to kill his brother, and a burial of the push to walk away from His presence after the ungodly act. But God never got that harvest. Making it possible for Satan to have a seed of Adam to process into a seed of the wicked.
One act of sin does not make one a seed of the wicked one. But what we do after the act is what makes. If you leave the presence of the LORD after the act, the satanic and sinful will begin to rule your inner life. If the satanic and sinful rule your inner life after a while, you will become the seed of the wicked.
THAT EXPLAINS WHY ADAM REMAINED A SON OR SEED OF GOD AFTER THE FALL.
He refused to walk away from the presence of the LORD. Though he was sent out of the glory of the Garden of Eden, He remained under the presence of the LORD even outside the Garden.
Many do not know that the people God regretted creating in Genesis Chapter 6 were offspring of Cain; seeds of a man who walked away from God’s presence. If their ancestor Cain had made use of God’s mercy when it was available to him, buried the thought of killing Abel, or walking away from God’s presence thereafter, there would have been no generation of the flood.
The terrible mix of the generation of men, women and fallen angels, giving rise to Nephilim in Genesis chapter 6, would not have existed. Redemption would have happened much quicker, and things would have wrapped up by now.
Our mortal minds cannot fathom the things we slowdown in God, the future we conceal, and the blessings we blow away when we do not respond to God’s mercy properly. The blindness in our hearts.
If you want to respond to God’s mercy properly, you must not just see it as a need, you must also see it as a seed. The offspring of Cain that were caught up in the judgment of the flood of Noah, for example, received a deposit of God’s Mercy just like their ancestor did.
The Bible says God raised a righteous voice called Noah to preach to them. It is important to understand that the Preaching of the gospel is the highest form of God’s mercy to humanity. So, the ministry of Noah was God’s mercy to that generation. But none of them heeded the warnings of the man of God.
One of the worse ways to respond to God’s mercies is rebellion or turning your ear away from the preaching of the word or the prophetic finger that confronts your sin, iniquity or trespass. People do that and still cry for God’s mercy.
They do not know that it still came in the release of the prophetic finger, and they turned it down by not paying attention to it.
OUR DEVOTIONAL TEXT PRESENTS THE STORY OF A MAN WHO SINNED AGAINST GOD BY VIOLATING OFFERING PRINCIPLES.
Yes, his offence began when God rejected his offerings. But when God rejected his offerings, it was an act of mercy. However, he never understood. It is better for God to reject your offering while you are alive, so that you make corrections than to reject your soul after death.
The rejections of the LORD in time are an act of mercy, seeded into our lives so that we might amend our ways and not be rejected in eternity. But Cain never knew that. So, he reacted by shifting his anger to Abel, his innocent brother. The Bible says,
Now Cain talked with Abel his brother; and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him. Then the Lord said to Cain, “Where is Abel your brother?”
He said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?” And He said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.
From the story of Cain, we can see that a generation that do not make use of God’s mercy, will keep moving from sin to sin, and from wickedness to wickedness, and sometimes it will be doing so on its knees asking God for mercy and forgiveness. That is how deluded mankind can be.
Let me reiterate again that if God “seed” His mercy into our lives, and we do not allow a harvest of repentance from that sin or wickedness to spring up from us, we have not responded to His mercies properly. The result will not be good.
Finally, I want to let us know that we are in the days of God’s mercy – that is as many of us that are alive.
Very soon the curtain will close on each one of us and mercy will be over.
We will come face to face with GOD to answer before HIM. It’s my prayer that GOD will take us further individually and show us more ways of responding to His mercies so that we will become the beauty He wants us to be on the face of the earth. Amen.
LET THIS SCRIPTURE BE AN ADDITIONAL MEDITATION FOR YOU TODAY!
“But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is long suffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.
Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?
Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.” 2 Peter 3:8-13 NKJV
