TODAY’S DEVOTION (Wednesday 3rd September 2025)
“For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.” Titus 1:10-11 NKJV
WELCOME TO THE 246TH DAY OF OUR YEAR OF VICTORY
How great is God’s goodness stored up for those who fear Him. There is no end to the compassion that comes from Him each day. That is why there will be no end to our peace, progress, victories and songs of deliverance, praise and thanks giving.
Of His fullness we have received, grace for grace. He came full of grace and truth so that our lives can be full of righteousness and freedom. His Spirit has made us; His breath gives us life. We are the evidence of His unquenchable love, the shedding of His blood, and death on the cross.
When he died, the Bible teaches that it destroyed he who had the power of death, that is the devil, and release those who through the fear of death were all their lifetime subject to the bondage. The outpouring of His Holy Spirit perfected that for us. The Bible would later say:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7 NKJV
The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of faith, so when He comes, nothing heretic, false or deceptive remains. The Bible teaches that when He comes, He will begin to lead or guide the teachable into all truths. He is the Spirit of truth that Jesus promised was coming.
It’s my prayer that we develop strong bond with God and deeply fall in love with the Holy Spirit like our fathers did.
This morning God has a word for us. It is from our devotional text which is an apostolic scripture. Yesterday, the LORD spoke to us about making His footsteps our pathways. One of the areas to do so is in recognizing and aligning with what the Bible teaches about the power of the tongue.
Our devotional text spoke about mouths that must be stopped.
That was originally referring to false prophets in Crete, an ancient town in Bible days. But in the general use of our tongues, it is important to see what next we can learn from the LORD from that scripture.
MOUTHS CAN BE VERY POWERFUL. WHAT PEOPLE SAY WITH THEIR TONGUES CAN DETERMINE SO MUCH IN THEIR LIVES.
Destinies are either made or destroyed by mouths. The difference between war and peace lies in what comes out of the mouth. The difference between deliverance and captivity, poverty and prosperity, sickness and health, serenity and chaos, or life progress and damning failures, lies in what comes out of the mouth.
What is coming out of your mouth might be responsible for all the woes in your life. But the enemy has a way of pointing out other things as the reason for our woes. Life can be very beautiful and graceful, steadily progressing, until a wrong word comes out of the mouth. You could be enjoying your marriage, until one wrong word comes out of your mouth.
Yes, you could be enjoying your job until a wrong word comes out of your mouth. You could be enjoying the best from someone the LORD placed in your life, until the wrong word comes out of your mouth.
Your pastor, father, or mother might be taking care of you so well, until the wrong word comes out of your mouth. Depending on the kind of word that comes out, there are things we allow out of our mouths that should not have been allowed in the first place.
The Bible calls the tongue a world of iniquity, and a flame that can set anything on fire. The reason is because of the monstrous things that men and women have created with their tongues. Your greatest problems may not be anywhere else but your tongue. So many people who are busy looking for the root cause of their problems have it right in their mouth without knowing it.
If they put some breaks on their tongue and stop their mouths from saying things it should not say, they will move from the darkest nights of life to the brightest.
THE QUICKER WE UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OUR MOUTHS PLAY, THE BETTER.
For instance, your mouth played a major role to where you are today in life. Let me show you four of the many things I have come to learn about the month.
1. If you do not guard or control what comes out of your mouth, you will live a miserable life on earth. Most people we say are cursed are not really cursed by the external but the internal. Their mouth is their ruin that is why they cannot be delivered.
2. Your mouth will be responsible for either your success or failure in God’s plans for your life. Sometimes it is important to stop your own mouth if you want to succeed in the will of God not the mouth of others. If you do not stop a mouth that causes ruin, it will stop a glorious destiny from being fulfilled.
The psalmist said, “…I have purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.” (Psalm 17:3 AMP) The transgression of the mouth is the reason for the backwardness of many!
3. The difference between peaceful homes and trouble ones lies in what comes out of the mouth. 90 percent of what we call domestic violence is precipitated by what comes out of the mouth. If you cultivate a peaceful mouth, you will have a peaceful life.
4. There are preachers whose mouths must be stopped. That is what our devotional text tells us. The mouth of an erroneous preacher or prophet will destroy you. In line with our apostolic mandate, let me share this in closing.
In the book of Revelation 16:13 we are told that unclean spirits, in form of frogs, do come out of the mouth of false prophets wherever they speak. That is why it is dangerous to listen to false prophets and teachers.
If you give your life to a mouth that is speaking what may be working miracles in your life but not rooted in the Spirit of truth, you will be consumed by unclean spirits, coming out of the person’s words.
As you pass through this day, note the mouths that must be stopped and avoid them. Submit to the Spirit of Truth to guide your heart and guard your life from mouths that consume in Jesus precious name!
MAKE THIS SCRIPTURE AN ADDITIONAL MEDITATION FOR THE DAY!!
“Deliver my life from the sword, my dear life [my only one] from the power of the dog [the agent of execution]. Save me from the lion’s mouth; for you have answered me [kindly] from the horns of the wild oxen. I will declare your name to my brethren; in the midst of the congregation will I praise you. Psalm 22:20-22 AMP
