TODAY’S DEVOTION (SATURDAY 14TH MARCH 2026)
“For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.”
Titus 1:10-11 NKJV
WELCOME TO THE 73RD DAY OF OUR YEAR OF STRATEGIC VICTORY
The scriptures of our devotional text today is an apostolic scripture. In today’s devotional we will be looking at the subject of mouths. Do you wonder why the Bible says certain mouth (maybe including yours) must be stopped?
Obviously, there are mouths that should be stopped and there are mouths that should not be stopped. For instance, if certain mouths are stopped, mouths like the mouths of God’s true servants and sound teachers of His word, which is what the antichrist wants to do in every generation, people will die spiritually, then physically and finally eternally!!
Yes, if the mouth of people saddled with the responsibility to preach, pray and prophesy until souls are changed or transformed into the image of Christ are stopped, the eternal destiny of many will be doomed. The fundamental reason for the persecution of the saints in every generation is to stop the mouth of those God is using to seek and to save that which was lost.
Peter, James (not his brother James who later became the head of the church) and John were all taken to the mountain top by Jesus to experience transfiguration. When they got there, they saw things that Satan would not want said on earth.
Oh yes, people have been taken to the throne room while feeding on the scriptures and given things that Satan would not want to be heard on earth to say on earth.
Whenever God show you things that Satan would not want to be said on earth, the fallen angel will move to call on his demons to make sure your mouth is stopped. That has been his mode of operations since the first day man lost his place in the garden of Eden.
BUT GOD ALWAYS PREVAIL AGAINST HIM, MAKING IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO SAY THOSE THINGS AND FOR THEM TO BE HEARD ON EARTH.
He said in His words:
“So have no fear of them; for nothing is concealed that will not be revealed or kept secret that will not become known. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light; and what you hear whispered in the ear, proclaim upon the housetops.”
Matthew 10:26-27 AMPC
In effect, Jesus was saying do not stop your mouth after I have given you something from heaven to say on earth. Do not allow fear of those who want your mouth stopped to eat you up. Lift your voice like a trumpet to speak my words. The mouths of those ordained of the LORD to speak from heaven should not be stopped.
After the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Peter, James and John, the three men who saw things that were to be said on earth after the death burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, began to say the things, and people began to hear them. It led to Satan’s move against then aimed at stopping their mouths.
His first move was to stop James, not even the James who experienced the transfiguration but the James who was the blood brother of Jesus Christ, who got saved after His resurrection. He would later kill the very James who saw the transfiguration as well.
The man James, the brother of Jesus, first opposed the LORD, but later became one of His most Lethal advocates and the enemy did not like that. He liked it when he was opposing him not when he became a witness of Him. He had thus James killed to stop his mouth.
Then He moved against Peter, then John beloved. Peter saw miraculous escapes before he would later die by execution after fulfilling his days. The ultimate of all he faced was to have his mouth stopped. The enemy cannot stand the power and word of the LORD in the mouth of those God has anointed to be His witnesses.
HE USUALLY BECOME INSANE SEEKING TO STOP THEIR MOUTH.
That is why you must be ready for battle whenever God gives you things to declare on earth. John, the revelator, full of things to declare on earth, was thrown into a boiling pot of oil. The vision of the enemy was to shut up his eternal life-giving mouth. But God protracted him.
You will enjoy the same protection if you allow your mouth to fulfill its original intent.
Originally, God created the mouth to bring down the kingdom of darkness and help man exercise his dominion over all creation. He did not create it to create wars or bring destruction. The Bible says:
“A [self-confident] fool’s lips bring contention, and his mouth invites a beating. A [self-confident] fool’s mouth is his ruin, and his lips are a snare to himself.”
Proverbs 18:6-7 AMPC
These and other scriptures tells us what God never created our mouths for. He never created them to bring us contention or invite a beating. He never created our mouths to be our ruin or be our snare. He created it primarily to be a tool for exercising dominion over visible and invisible realms of existence, and for fostering relationships between man and man and between God and man.
If your mouth is a ruin, a snare, or a force that always invites beating or contention to your life, it is not fulfilling its purpose. God sent this word to us so that we can adjust and allow our mouth to begin to fulfill its purpose.
He said in our devotional text that a mouth that is not fulfilling its God given purpose should be stopped. That can be by prayer, counsel, admonition or any other move of His Spirit.
This morning, we are getting an admonition. There was a time when a wicked king got a slap from an angel to stop his mouth from defeating the purpose of its creation. A High Priest once had the power of his speech taken for the same purpose. God wants all who are using their mouth wrongly to be stopped in ways that will benefit His kingdom.
As we bring this to a close, we understand that He created the mouth for a beautiful purpose, primarily for communication, relationship, transactions and saying on earth what has been said in heaven. He never created it for anything ugly, evil, bad, or destructive.
